The human behaviour differs from person to person. It is not possible for the management to satisfy the feelings and ego of all its employees. It is therefore but natural that workers have grievances against their immediate supervisor or against the management as a whole or against the systems and practices which are followed in the organization. Grievance is mainly because of the difference between the employee expectation and management practice. Most grievances seriously disturb the employee and it is not possible for all supervisors to solve the grievances at their end. Hence it is important that there is an effective grievance handling procedure in place in organisations. The objective of study is to assess the grievance management system at the Vavuniya Urban Council. The data were collected from employees and management. There are 104 different level of employees responded to the questionnaire. Secretary and chairman of the Urban Council responded to the key Informant interview. Some of the employees were taken for interview and discussion. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected to this study. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques with the help of SPSS. The qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis and case analysis techniques. The study result revel that ineffective grievance management practices in Vavuniya Urban Council. Further, the study reveal that Cast, Lack of Education, Misunderstanding, Authority neglect employees are the major cause for grievances. The study recommend that grievance management should be improved. |
