dc.description.abstract This study provides a comprehensive exploration of virtual project management practices in the IT industry of Sri Lanka using a qualitative research approach. The study addresses a critical gap in the literature by offering context-specific insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with managing projects remotely with geographically dispersed teams. Through in-depth interviews with key stakeholders within the Sri Lankan IT industry, the research uncovers the nuanced applications of project management practices throughout the project life cycle. The findings offer valuable insights, recommendations, and best practices that can enhance the effectiveness of virtual project management within this specific context, ultimately contributing to more successful project outcomes and improved project management strategies. The practical significance of this study lies in its potential to bring about positive social change by promoting more effective project management practices and the success of IT projects.
